We don’t think of shopping as something that’ll make our life better.
We think of shopping as a spending-time kinda thing… or with a me-me-me objective…
It’s too bad, really.
Often when I see someone buying something, getting something new, I think:
“They’re not happier now. They spent their hard-earned money and now they’re not happier at all… And what’s even crazier is that they’ll do it again next week!”
I used to do it too… until I found a better way.
If you wanna keep getting things, because shopping is fun, but you wanna switch the curse around and actually feel good about/remain happy with your purchases, all you have to do is…
Shop small! 😌
Shop small and/or local businesses instead of big corporations.
There’s zero guilt after buying small, no matter the amount you paid.
And you’ll be happy every time you wear/use/see it.
Because you made the world a better place. You actually helped someone who needed it. You encouraged someone’s project/talent/dream… There’s nothing small about any of it!
Even while you’re doing it, it feels better. Compare this:
Browsing huge, impersonal department stores and malls, filled with strangers,
OR
Discovering an artist or small business online, browsing their store and maybe getting something you know will make a difference in their life (and yours!)
It’s a much more human experience.
There’s no regret afterwards knowing you genuinely helped someone.
And what better way to help someone than getting something beautiful, maybe unique, in exchange? 😁
