Then, I'll Hop A Fence And Get Richard Widmark To Sign My Grapefruit — Or The Reference Even Sookie’s Confused About!
Oookayyyy… does that make sense to someone? Anyone? Man, this one is mysterious! Click here to find out what the hell Lorelai’s talking about.
I was in Richard Widmark's backyard trying to steal a grapefruit, when I realized...
I was stuck in there.
Couldn't get out! What if Widmark gets home? He'll see me! What an idiot.
My only way out is through the house... Maybe I could get him to sign my grapefruit if he's nice enough?
Do you know who Richard Widmark is?
Well, I'll explain.
"Then, I'll hop a fence and get Richard Widmark to sign my grapefruit"
We're in season 5, episode 10 - But Not as Cute as Pushkin. Lorelai and Sookie are trying to hide Luke's boat in Lorelai's garage.
LORELAI: What if we hang the Thigh Masters on it?
SOOKIE: Or get more trees! Jackson's got some trees at home.
LORELAI: Think I could borrow them?
SOOKIE: Sure. We'll just wait 'til he lies down for his nap and sneak 'em right out of there.
LORELAI: Great! Then, I'll hop a fence and get Richard Widmark to sign my grapefruit.
Richard Widmark was a big deal actor and producer in Hollywood.
He played in films such as: Kiss of Death (1947), The Alamo (1960) and Murder on the Orient Express (1974).
He also appeared in an episode of I Love Lucy called The Tour, where she tries to steal a grapefruit from his yard and falls on the other side of the fence!

If you watch the GG scene closely, you'll notice that even Sookie seems a little confused by Lorelai's remark... Talk about a mysterious, random comment!
But hey! Now we know what she took it from 🍊
